Fall is fast approaching, so I’d like to take a moment to describe one of the highlights of my summer from a weekend in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. When a Boulder friend and fellow Drake Design Alum, along with her husband, said they would be staying in Lake Geneva for a few days, it sparked a flurry of internet searching for places to stay and eat (The Abbey in Fontana and Café Calamari in Williams Bay, respectively – both outstanding).

The three of us also took a tour of Black Point, which is one of the oldest mansions on Geneva Lake and only accessible to the public by boat. It is a really interesting step back in time to the summer home of Conrad Seipp, a Chicago beer barron who built the house in 1888 on the highest point of the lake.

The Queen Anne style home is now owned and operated as a museum by the State of Wisconsin and protected from future development by the Geneva Lake Conservancy. Due to an overgrowth of pine trees, which will be explained by the unbelievably pleasant and knowledgeable docents guiding your visit, it is a hidden gem in the Lake Geneva area and on Geneva Lake that is definitely worth finding.
