  • Color Theory from a Milwaukee Monarch

Phew! This week has just flown by, so this week’s blog is a quick color theory lesson courtesy of the last of Milwaukee’s monarch butterflies.

We’ve discussed complementary colors here before and today we are talking about secondary colors. These are the colors you get when you mix the primary colors red, yellow and blue to make purple, orange and green.

This triangulation of color is especially beautiful when it occurs naturally – as seen in this photo of the butterfly taken along the lakefront. The trio of purple, orange and green is a very organic, rich and pleasant combination compared to the bold and bright primaries.

Next week we will show you how we used the secondary color scheme to develop a look for Adoption Resources of Wisconsin and their Our Home Our Family curriculum. Until then – have a wonderful weekend and enjoy all the secondary color combinations that autumn has to offer.
